The festival announcements are coming thick and fast at the minute – it’s almost as if they time the announcement and tickets sales to coincide with the season of Christmas gift-buying!
Today it’s the turn of the Isle Of Wight Festival, who have announced that Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro will headline the Friday night of the festival – which runs over the weekend of 12 – 15 June 2014.
Also confirmed in today’s first batch of acts is DJ Calvin Harris, Rudimental, The 1975, The Waterboys and Passenger.
The announcement comes as tickets are due to go on sale this Thursday (12 December) at a special early-bird price of £170 for weekend tickets and £70 for day tickets. Staged payment plans for tickets will be available when they go on sale at 9am on Thursday.
Announcing the first confirmed acts, festival promoter John Giddings said:
Friday night is going to kick it out of the park with Biffy & Calvin and special guests Rudimental – I can’t wait…. having Passenger and The 1975 already on board we’re set for one of our most contemporary years – with the class of The Waterboys complementing the young guns nicely….
Biffy frontman Simon Neil said of their headline slot:
We are over the moon to announce that we will headline the Main Stage of the Isle of Wight Festival next year, on Friday June 13th. To follow the likes of Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam is an honour. We cannot wait to get back to this iconic Festival, and this beautiful island!
