Sam Smith has been revealed as the winner of the BBC Sound Of 2o14 poll – beating out competition from the likes of Banks, Ella Eyre and Sampha.
Previous winners of the BBC’s annual ‘Sound Of’ poll include Adele, Ellie Goulding, Little Boots, Jessie J and Haim.
Throughout this week the BBC have been whittling down their long list into a top 5, which now looks like this:
1. Sam Smith
2. Ella Eyre
3. Banks
4. Sampha
5. George Ezra
Sam Smith adds the BBC Sound of 2014 to his growing haul of ‘exciting new artist’ awards, having already won the Brit Awards Critics Choice Award.
Speaking about coming top of the Sound of 2014 poll, Smith said:
I’m completely speechless. It’s a huge compliment to be recognised by the industry and the BBC in this way. I really didn’t expect it. Being amongst names like Ellie, Jessie J, Adele is just incredible because they inspire my music so much.
