Listen: Klaxons – ‘Children Of The Sun’

Klaxons raised a few eyebrows last week with the big reveal of their pop-tastic ‘comeback’ single ‘There Is No Other Time‘.

As revealed last week, Klaxons have been working with a range of different producers for their upcoming third album. ‘There Is No Other Time’ was produced by Radio 1 favourites Gorgon City, and other collaborators include James Murphy, Erol Alkan and The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands, who worked on ‘Children Of The Sun’. This Week’s New Single Releases (9th February 2014)

My A-Z round up of the new singles available for digital download this week.

Single Of The Week

Gary Barlow and Elton John – ‘Face to Face’
Gary Barlow and Elton John
{rating}
Buy it: Face To Face
For whatever reason this song has had very little publicity, so little that Amazon and iTunes aren’t listing it as a single even though it’s charted and was released. ‘Face to Face’ is Barlow’s best solo track yet. He’s crafted a bouncy, up-tempo singable number and his vocals – which are rather ‘Manic Street Preachers’ at times – work very well with the ever reliable deep sounds of Elton John. With some spot-on production, a truly memorable vibe and a powerful breakdown, this deserves to be much more successful. Poppy, perky and very catchy. Pop perfection!

Watch: Jimi Goodwin releases video for ‘Oh! Whiskey’

Doves front-man Jimi Goodwin is gearing up to the release of his first solo album Odludek next month, and has just released a promo video for the albums lead single ‘Oh! Whiskey’.

Fittingly for such a calm and reflective song, the video is pretty low-key and features Jimi in contemplative mood overlooking a river. Read more about Watch: Jimi Goodwin releases video for ‘Oh! Whiskey’

Listen: Klaxons go pop-tastic with new single ‘There Is No Other Time’

It would be a bit of an exaggeration to suggest Klaxons have been sorely missed since their second album Surfing The Void came out a full four years ago. Their re-imagining of 90’s rave-pop culture was starting to wear a bit thin by 2010, but it’s still good news to have them back on the scene.

They have announced today that they will have a new album out in ‘late spring’, and have released brand new single ‘There Is No Other Time’ to ‘pave the way for the albums release’. Read more about Listen: Klaxons go pop-tastic with new single ‘There Is No Other Time’

This Week’s New Single Releases (26th January 2014)

My round up of the new singles available for digital download this week. The Amazing Snakeheads – ‘Flatlining’ From the same label as Franz Ferdinand comes this slow, lumbering number headed up by a sombre, gruff singer echoing over a chunky bassline. It’s so slow it’s almost pedestrian and pretty uncommercial, but with unusual vocals […]

Love Letters

Listen: Metronomy – ‘Love Letters’

Not too sure what to make of this, as it is a far cry from Metronomy’s usual electro-trickery. ‘Love Letters’ is the title track from Joe Mount’s upcoming new Metronomy album, and its a pretty crazy 70’s-pop track complete with mariachi horns. It’s the second track taken from Love Letters following the lead single ‘I’m […]

everyday robots

Watch: Damon Albarn – ‘Everyday Robots’

As reported yesterday, details of Damon Albarn’s upcoming solo album were leaked online by his US label Warner Music. Predictably today has seen the Blur/Gorillaz polymath officially reveal all about the album – which is called Everyday Robots and is due for release on 28 April on Parlophone. The album will be preceded by the […]

Watch: Temples – ‘Mesmerise’ video

The shamelessly psychedelic Temples are set to make a big impression in 2014. Their eagerly-awaited debut album Sun Structures is out on 22 February and, if previously released tracks ‘Keep In The Dark‘ and ‘Mesmerise’ are anything to go by, it should brighten up the tail-end of winter with lots of gloriously shimmering psych-pop. Today […]
