After announcing a surprise comeback gig in Hyde Park on 5 July, The Libertines surprised everyone a bit more by announcing more dates and turning it into a full-blown comeback tour.
As well as the Hyde Park gig, The Libertines will be playing at the Optimus Primavera Sound Festival in Portugal, Benicassim in Spain and loads of other festivals (see below). They’re also playing a warm-up show at Glasgow’s Barrowlands on 29 June.
During a recent interview with Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper about the Glasgow gig, front-man Pete Doherty said that as well as all these gigs the band could also be set to record a new album.
Doherty said:
A new record is exactly what we’re talking about, that’s the dream, really. Finish off all those ideas that we never completed back in the day, all those songs we never played for anyone else that have been floating around in the ether. We’re also wanting to try out a few new ideas so it wouldn’t just be old stuff. I don’t want to tempt fate but we both have the desire, so I think it will happen. It’s important to be honest and there’s still a lot we have to say. We’re still relevant.
