A new month brings a new batch of album releases, and March 2014 is obviously no different. Here’s my pick of the top albums out this month:

This Week’s New Single Releases (29th September 2013)
My round up of the new singles available for digital download this week. Austin Mahone – ‘What About Love’ You know when your media player of choice stutters and you get that awful stuck sound? Well here it is matched up with the sound of an angry wasp and a thumping bass, to back up […]
Pop success, it’s all in the name
Who remembers David Sneddon? David won the BBC’s talent show Fame Academy, a pre-cursor to X-Factor, in 2002. His subsequent debut single went straight to number 1, and then he kind of vanished. So what happened? You might put it down to the possibility that perhaps he wasn’t that talented, or the show itself was […]
Single review: Pharrell Williams – ‘Marilyn Monroe’
It’s not as irritating as ‘Happy’, thankfully, but there’s something missing on this new single from Williams. Though its Bond-esque riff is fun especially in the breakdown and the repeated ‘girl’ chorus grabs you with its repetitive simplicity, ‘Marilyn Monroe’ isn’t up to Pharrell’s usual high standards with a collection of ideas that don’t gel […]
Kasabian, Robert Plant, Beck, Pharrell and more announced for iTunes Festival 2014
Kasabian’s stellar year will continue with a headline slot at this years iTunes Festival at London’s Roundhouse. The Leicester band, who have a number one album, a huge homecoming show, a Glastonbury headline slot and a sold-out UK tour to their name so far in 2014, will play the iTunes Festival on 5 September. Joining […]
The most interesting London festivals of 2014
Is there no better way to while away one’s free moments; minutes so furiously wrenched away from the boring rigmarole of everyday life; than putting on pairs of shades and shorts and heading on down to a summer festival. Baking sun, guitar twangs percolating through the breeze, and a frosty pint of lager; we wouldn’t […]
Buy tickets for the extra Pharrell Williams UK date here
It’s no surprise that an extra UK date had to be hastily arranged for the UK leg of Pharrell Williams’ DEAR GIRL tour – announcing just two original dates was never going to satisfy his UK fans. After tickets for the first two dates (Manchester on 9 September and London on 9 October) sold out […]
Album stream: Pharrell Williams – GIRL
Rushed album releases are a bit in vogue these days, and official Man Of 2013 Pharrell Williams isn’t one to buck a trend. He only announced his new album G I R L last week at the BRITs, and is now streaming it ahead of its release next week.
The album features contributions from Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. There’s also a credit for Hollywood soundtrack supremo Hans Zimmer who helped with all the string arrangements. Read more about Album stream: Pharrell Williams – GIRL …
Phil’s Top 100 Music Singles of 2013: #20 – #1
So in this final part, here are my top twenty songs of 2013! 20. Gary Barlow – ‘Let Me Go’ (Released: November, No. 2) After a few years captaining the reformed Take That man-band, Barlow released his first major solo single in fourteen years. Taking inspiration from Mumford and Sons, this perky, country-tinged number feels […]
This Week’s New Single Releases (15th December 2013)
My round up of the new singles available for digital download this week. Al Lewis – ‘A Child’s Christmas In Wales’ As we hit the week before Christmas here is the first of many festive-themed songs. Al Lewis’ song is a simple, string-led atmospheric look at the season that revels more in its poetry and […]
