Kevin Shields has revealed he expects to release the new My Bloody Valentine album before the year is out. As previously reported, My Bloody Valentine have been in the studio working on the long-awaited follow-up to their seminal 1991 album Loveless – now the guitarist has said he hopes to release the album on his website in the next two months.
Speaking to NME, Shields said of the new album:
I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it’s stranger than ‘Loveless’. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 per cent necessary.
As well as a new album, Shields has also said My Bloody Valentine will be releasing an EP of new material early next year.
I’m sure there will be a lot more news on this in the next few weeks – so I’ll keep you posted.
