Gorillaz have announced they will release a new album as a free download on Christmas Day. The band have been releasing digital treats to their fans all December via an advent calendar on their website, which had led to rumours of something special on Christmas Day – especially after Damon Albarn had previously announced he had recorded a whole album on his iPad and was keen to release it this year.
These rumours were confirmed today by Damon’s Gorillaz cohort Jamie Hewlett, who told a newspaper:
“On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released. Then on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free as a gift.”
Check out the Gorillaz website for all their festive treats before the album is released.
