Electronics giant Samsung have launched a new initiative to unearth new talent in the UK, with the help of celebrity mentors Paloma Faith, Idris Elba, Rankin and Gizzi Erskine.
The ‘Launching People’ project aims to find ‘people with original ideas, people with energy, with get up and go, people who dare, who embrace what’s new, who like to create, to collaborate’.
They are looking for new ‘stars’ in the world of music, film, food and photography – and have joined forces with top names in each industry to mentor candidates and help them launch their ideas.
More details can be found at the official site – www.launchingpeople.co.uk – which is where budding young creatives can apply to take part.
The application process requires you to submit a two-minute video pitch. Each mentor will pick one candidate to work with, and their journey from meeting their mentor through to launching their new project will be documented on a TV show which is due to air later in the year.
Here’s a video from Paloma Faith explaining her role as mentor:
And here’s is Paloma on what she is looking for from candidates:
I’m really looking for something that we’ve not seen in a British artist before. What’s important to me is that the person has something innovative to offer, something that defies genre. I’m looking for outsiders. I love and relate to outsiders. The thought of finding someone like that excites me.
This all sounds like a great chance for young and ambitious artists, so good luck if you’re entering!
