Sam Smith – ‘Lay Me Down’

After preforming vocals for garage-house duo Disclosure on their recent release ‘Latch’, Sam Smith has quickly become renowned for his distinctive voice.

Premiered on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show on January 27th, Sam Smith’s first single ‘Lay Me Down’ is a pleasure to listen to.

His full-bodied vocals quickly overwhelm me, underneath sensual ‘bedroom beats’ and vivid electronics that combine together with a downbeat tempo ever so soothingly. The use of backing vocals with his high pitched and powerful vocals create a superb sequence of striking sounds and then… the chorus – his over-powering and somewhat delicate vocals wrap itself around my emotions, triggering all things romantic and amorous.

The contrast in genre between soulful vocals and downbeat, chilled electronics merge perfectly to create a flawless, soulful-funk feel to the track. ‘Lay Me Down’ is a sensational track performed by a sensational artist – Sam Smith imitates his ability to really ‘grab’ your emotions through his thrilling vocals.

He is a remarkable artist with a brilliant future within the music industry and ‘Lay Me Down’ is a perfect track to kick-start his success!
