I remember when I first started learning the keyboard I could have done a piano riff like this, someone stabbing at five notes on the keyboard over and over again. Here on ‘Games’, joined by three remixes on the extended-play, CLAIRE is more listenable than the irritating, repetitive off-the-shelf backing; her voice is a pleasure to listen to. {rating}

Wild Beasts – ‘Wanderlust’
‘Wanderlust’ is possibly the most unique release I’ve reviewed this week thanks to its strong audible style. {rating}
Chase and Status feat. Ed Thomas – ‘Blk and Blu’
The fourth single from Brand New Machine is a sombre number that is so downbeat I’m surprised the vocalist doesn’t give up half way through, down a glass of whiskey and go ‘it’s not worth it’. {rating}

Boyz Club – ‘Whatchu Do’
“Welcome to the Boyz Club, please pick up your membership card. As part of this club we’ll style you, write a song for you and provide you with our latest Autotune machine, but I must warn you that it’s seen better days. We also have an RnB producer who has hit hard times who’ll come on board and make the record.” I believe that’s the introduction these four lads will have got. It’s as you’d expect from a One Direction / *NSync / The Wanted clone coming across as Justin Bieber and his three cloned brothers.
Avicii – ‘Addicted To You’ (David Guetta Remix)
The fourth single from Avicii’s debut album is possibly the most different so far due to the fact it lands on the digital shelves in the form of a David Guetta remix, and it’s a remix that whips out all the clichéd hallmarks of a Guetta production whilst Avicii lifts the sound of Nancy Sinatra’s ‘Shot Me Down’, though it’s frankly better than the hash-up David Guetta recently did of the actual record. {rating}

Lily Allen – ‘Air Balloon’
For all its controversial lyrics and radio unfriendliness, it’s difficult to deny the catchiness of her previous single ‘Hard Out Here’. In contrast ‘Air Balloon’ starts off well with its hand-club beat and kiddy-sound but descends into a poor, poppy number with a chorus that isn’t as catchy or as great as it thinks it should be; it just feels like it’s missing something and trying too hard. {rating}
Bastille and Rudimental – ‘Pompeii / Waiting All Night’ (Live at the BRITs)
The BRITs single of the year gets mashed up with a hit from the British Breakthrough act of 2014, performed live and released. {rating}

This Week’s Single Releases (5th January 2014)
My round up of the new singles available for digital download this week. Above and Beyond – ‘Mariana Trench’ Inspired by the geographical landmark, ‘Mariana Trench’ captures the feel of the sea very well and has shades of underwater levels from mid-90s video games mixed with the best of Robert Miles. As a fully instrumental […]

My A-Z round up of the new singles available for digital download this week.
Single Of The Week
Foxes – ‘Let Go For Tonight’
The second single from their debut album and this is a much more accomplished listen than their first cut. With a bombastic backing tune and a hugely danceable vibe, with Louisa Rose Allen’s vocals belting out, this is a great slice of bouncy pop with some well-placed lyrics, musical breaks and a fun, closing section. Hopefully this will do well for the young singer in the charts. (7.5/10)

This Week’s New Single Releases (16th February 2014)
My A-Z round up of the new singles available for digital download this week.
A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera – ‘Say Something’
Here’s a slow-paced piano-led ballad that is programmed to pull at your heart-strings and certainly feels like the post-Valentines come down. ‘Say Something’ is a song that you really want to go somewhere but it doesn’t quite build on its initial concept; a huge chorus never really appears. The verse is touching and well balanced between the vocals of the main singer and guest artist Aguilera over some swelling strings and it finally brings a bit more power in the final third. It’ll fit nicely over the touching end of a television drama but not sure how strong it is on its own, but it’s a well meaning tear-jerker if you’re in the right frame of mind. (6.5/10)
