Live review: Beyonce at LG Arena, Mon 24 February

Thankfully last night was a school night, so there was no repeat of my drunken Jake Bugg antics and I could actually take in all of the audio-visual assault that is Beyonce’s Mrs Carter World Tour.

First up, I managed to catch a bit of X Factor winner Sam Bailey’s support set – which was largely uneventful save for a few encouraging whoops and cheers from the crowd when she hit the high notes. Live review: Jake Bugg at Royal Albert Hall – Fri 21 Feb 2014

Before arriving at the Royal Albert Hall I was already one bottle of wine into the night. The queue for the bar inside the venue was so big that me and the girlfriend made the sensible decision to each buy a bottle of wine, so as to avoid having to go back to the bar during the gig. Subsequently, my memory of Jake Bugg’s performance doesn’t extend to much of the particular details. I have a general sense of it being a very good gig, with Jake doing an excellent job of filling the vast and opulent cavern that is the Royal Albert Hall, and I remember certain aspects of the night – which I will try and sketch out below.

Prince Glastonbury rumours gather pace – star apparently set for headline slot

As you’re probably aware, US pop legend Prince is currently in the middle of a string of gigs in London – but according to The Mirror, that’s not all he’s been up too while in the capital.

The tabloid has been speaking to ‘sources’ who claim that Prince has signed up to headline Glastonbury while he’s been in London, with festival organiser Michael Eavis personally meeting the star to thrash out a deal. Buy tickets for Embrace’s comeback tour in May here

‘Come Back To What You Know’ sang Embrace’s Danny McNamara back in 1998, and that’s the message to their legion of Britpop fans now as the Huddersfield band are on the comeback trail with a new album and a new UK tour scheduled for 2014.

Their new album, simply called Embrace, is set for release at the end of April, and the band have announced a nine-date of the UK to support it throughout May.

For some people tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, but for Lady Gaga fans tomorrow is the final chance to grab a ticket to see their hero’s artRAVE tour in the UK.

Arctic Monkeys are headlining Reading & Leeds 2014

Arctic Monkeys have today been announced as the latest headliner on this years Reading and Leeds Festival line-up.

The Sheffield band will join the previously announced Blink 182 at the top of the bill for this years festival, and are joined by fellow new announcements Warpaint, The 1972, The Courteeners, You Me At Six, Pusha T and Royal Blood amongst others.
