Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, the celebrated guitarist of post-hardcore band At The Drive-In and prog-rockers The Mars Volta, has today revealed the first single by his new band, Bosnian Rainbows.
Called ‘Torn Maps’, the song is a bit of an alt.rock diversion for Omar – although it does boast some pretty awesome guitar work. Check it out here:
As well as Omar, Bosnian Rainbows feature drummer Deantoni Parks, keyboardist Nicci Kasper and singer Teri Gender-Bender (who is also in Les Butcherettes).
Speaking of his new band, Omar has this to say to NME:
I did eight years in At The Drive-In being in a collective, so after that I wanted something where I was in charge and no one asked me any questions. After 11 years then in The Mars Volta of doing that, I found myself feeling very lonely and I felt like I abandoned my friendships, so I’ve decided to focus on this band.
He also explained his new approach to music thusly:
It’s the classic thing, you stick with one way of doing things for so long that you start to crave a different way of working.
‘Torn Maps’ will feature on the as-yet-untitled debut album by Bosnian Rainbows – which is expected at some point this year.
