New music roundup – no. 18

Another great selection of new music coming your way from my very over-crowded inbox! If you are in, or know of, a great new band then let me know on [email protected]

Circa Waves – ‘Get Away’
Here’s new Liverpool band Circa Waves’ first single ‘Get Away’, an exciting and rambunctious slice of indie-rock that’s over-flowing with great potential. It’s out on 2 December via Transgressive / Kissability as a double-A side 7” release along with ‘Good For Me’ – preorder it here

Dolomite Minor – ‘Girl Of Gold’
Hot on the heels of Drenge comes another grunge-inspired double-act in the shape of Southampton’s Dolomite Minor. From Led Zep through Nirvana and onto The White Stripes, Dolomite Minor wear their influences on their sleeves and, if this live performance of ‘Girl Of Gold’ is anything to go by, are capable of a pretty decent sound. Check them out on SoundCloud

Mount Fabric – ‘Books’
This is easily the most captivating new track I’ve heard in a while. Manchester’s Mount Fabric bill themselves as ‘Moody Rock’, and base their sound somewhere between Radiohead at their most reflective and Foals at their most exhilarating. Sounds like hyperbole, doesn’t it? Just listen to ‘Books’ and hear for yourself. Mount Fabric are getting filed right next to Embers as my ‘Manchester bands to watch’.

Yumi And The Weather – ‘All We Can’
Yumi And The Weather is Brighton-based singer-songwriter Ruby Taylor who makes dreamy, sumptuous pop music. There’s a lot of this kind of music around at the minute – think Lorde, London Grammar etc… so she has her work cut out. If the excellent ‘All We Can’ is anything to go by, then she has a good chance. Get the ‘All We Can’ EP here.

Cheatahs – ‘Cut The Grass / Kenworth’
I don’t know much about Cheatahs to be honest, but this double-A side single sounds pretty amazing. There’s a brilliantly intense psych-rock edge to the swirling layers of shoegaze fuzziness to both tracks. Their website lists a few EPs and other assorted releases so I might have to go check them out when I get the chance!

Ecstacy – ‘Exhale’
You need a certain level of confidence to call your band Ecstacy, and in debut single ‘Exhale’ this new Hertfordshire band make great use of that youthful exuberance. They describe their music as ‘dreamy synth-indie’ which pretty much sums it up. They share a label with current ‘dreamy synth-indie’ favourites CHVRCHES, which may or may not be relevant.
