David Robert Jones, known as David Bowie, was born in London on Jan 8, 1947. He was an English singer, writer, painter, artist and record producer. He had a long period of success during his illustrious career but his peak moments came during the 1970s when he was considered the prince of pop.

Bowie made a huge name for himself in 1975 when he released his single “Fame” and followed it with album “Young Americans”. He was the first English to crossover success to America with his music. Only two years later, Bowie repeated his success story with an electronic-inflected album “Low”. It was followed by Bowie’s major hits albums with Brian Eno titled “Heroes” and “Lodger”. From there, he never looked back. Both these albums reached top five in the UK and received a lot of praise for creativity. Bowie continued to experiement with musical styles throughout the 1990s and 2000s and made some of the most critically acclaimed records.

Sept. 1, 1967

This was the year that Bowie first recorded with the producer Tony Visconti. Both continued working together for rest of Bowie’s life. The first single they made together was ultimately rejected by Bowie’s label.

July 11, 1969

This was another special year as Bowie was able to get his first ever UK Top 10 entry with his breakthrough single “Space Oddity”.

July 6, 1972

Bowie performs “Starman” with The Spiders and everything for him changes. His career took off and Bowie never looked back.

Sept. 20, 1975

In 1975, Bowie scored his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single was titled “Fame” and it was from his ninth studio album “Young Americans”.
