James Lavelle, the famed DJ/producer, co-founder of UNKLE and head of the Mo’Wax label has been confirmed as the curator of next years Meltdown Festival.
Previous curators of the 10-day event held at London’s Southbank Centre have included the likes of Patti Smith, David Bowie, Massive Attack, Morrissey and Jarvis Cocker. Last years festival, which featured appearances from Peaches, Iggy And The Stooges, Siousxie and Patti Smith, was curated by Yoko Ono. So it’s kind of a big deal for Lavelle.
Speaking of his role, Lavelle said:
I want to bring together my influences from the past and the present, and my work as an artist in contemporary society as well as transform the space in a way that’s never been done before, both artistically and musically. In curating Meltdown I have a responsibility to inspire the next generation of young artists in the same way that I was inspired as a teenager. Together we will push boundaries, shoot for the moon and create something that people will never forget.
Being such a well-connected and talented producer, the mind boggles as to what we can expect from Meltdown 2014. Something big with DJ Shadow and Endtroducing… would be good!
