Celine Dion’s husband and her former manager Rene Angelil died on Thursday 14, January 2016, only two days before his 74th birthday. He was living with throat cancer and finally lost his battle. The couple had celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary just a month ago.
Celine Dion has canceled two of her Las Vegas residency shows following this terrible news. The canceled shows were to be held of Saturday and Sunday. She will now have a month free from commitments to mourn her dead husband. Both had three sons together.
Angelil, who was a pop singer back in 1960s, limited his career to managing after being diagnosed with throat cancer. He and Celine got together when Celine was just 12 years old. Angelil had been managing the singer ever since. They got married back in 1994.
Angelil’s cancer wasn’t anything new as we heard Celine announcing in 1999 and then in 2014 that she would postpone her career indefinitely and spend time with her husband to care for him. However, Angelil wanted her to stay strong and work on her music. That’s the reason Celine had planned the Las Vegas residency shows.
