BT announces deal with Universal for music streaming service

BT Music

Not content with hoovering up TV rights and giving Sky Sports a black eye, BT are now on the move in the music streaming market as well.

They’ve confirmed a deal with Universal Music to launch a music streaming service via their TV boxsets, which will also feature a karaoke service (naturally!)

Existing BT TV Unlimited customers will be able to access the service for free, and other BT TV customers will be able to opt into it for £3 a month.

The deal with Universal gives BT about 150 albums worth of material to stream, so they will need to increase this rapidly and get more labels on board if they are going to be a viable competitor to the likes of Spotify.
