James Blake wins the Mercury Prize Album Of The Year

James Blake’s Overgrown has won this years Mercury Prize for Album of the Year.

In the days running up to tonight’s announcement the bookies favourite for the prize traded hands several times – first Disclosure were tipped for the win, before Laura Mvula and then a late surge for the Arctic Monkeys. But at no point was James Blake mentioned as a serious contender.

The announcement was made during a star-studded awards ceremony at London’s Roundhouse hosted by Lauren Laverne.

Blake’s second album Overgrown was released earlier this year to solid reviews. Read my review of it here.
