The Arcadian Kicks – ‘You Play The Girl’ single review

Arcadian Kick You Play The Girl

The Arcadian Kicks – You Play The Girl

Introducing you to The Arcadian Kicks, a Birmingham based five-piece who specialise in raw and bouncy power-pop – think The Naked And The Famous mixed with a bit of Joy Formidable. So far the band have been hard at work building up a following in their hometown but now, with the help of legendary Blondie producer Mike Chapman, they’re armed with a debut album’s worth of pop-rock gems to have  a crack at the big-time.

You Play The Girl’ nicely showcases The Arcadian Kicks’ strong points – especially vocalist Rebecca Wilson’s distinctive vocal delivery, which helps the chorus stick in the mind. Tom Holloway’s guitar work also stands out, keeping the melody flowing without dominating it.

The Arcadian Kicks list The Horrors and My Bloody Valentine as influences, and the layered, wall-of-sound approach is definitely in evidence on ‘You Play The Girl’.
