Johnny Marr autobiography ‘is going to happen’

Johnny Marr has revealed that he has an agreement with a publisher for his autobiography.

The news follows the huge success his former Smiths band-mate Morrissey has achieved with his recently released autobiography, which is selling like hot-cakes and getting everyone talking about The Smiths again. Marr comes in for an equal amount of praise and criticism in Morrissey’s tome – praise for his brilliant guitar playing, criticism for that whole messy Smiths courtcase in the 90’s. So Marr’s versions of events would no doubt be of great interest to Smiths fans.

The guitarist, who released his first solo album The Messenger this year, revealed the news in an interview with Brooklyn Vegan – saying:

There is gonna be [an autobiography], yeah. I’ve had so many offers and so many people advising me that my story is worth it, but I understand it’s something that I have to do. I’ll do it in the next couple of years. I’m into it from the stance that I want it to be so thorough that I don’t make a record or tour whilst I was doing it. It is gonna happen, and I’ve already made an agreement with a publisher for it, so I will get it done.

As well as his now seminal work with The Smiths in the 80’s, Johnny Marr has worked with a variety of different musicians and bands on a lot of projects, including Electronic, The The, Modest Mouse and The Cribs – so we can expect a more diverse narrative than the one delivered by Morrissey.
