The Weeknd Faces Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Over Hit Single “The Hills”

The Weeknd has had tremendous success with his recent single “The Hills”. However, things don’t always end happily and that’s what has happened to this track. The rapper is now facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement for the song. The lawsuit is filed by Cutting Edge Music Limited who claims that the singer and his producers have stolen from a sample track. The sample track was for the British film Machine. The lawsuit was filed on December 9.

The plaintiff has taken the opinion that the track has been copied from a music sampled by composer Tom Taybould. The party has also produced supporting documents in the court that clearly show that the producer for The Hills had clearly stated his intention to copy the music in a letter written earlier this year.

The company Cutting Edge Music Limited, the plaintiff, has also provided digital proof of the copyright infringement. The company has quoted a tweet from defendant. The tweet goes as follow.

‘I sampled your music might make it 2 the weeknd next album. Huge fan of what u did 4 the machine movie’.
