2014 was a great year for music. We listened to some of the most beautiful tracks this year and enjoyed commercial as well as critically acclaimed albums. But still there is only one artist who succeeded in selling one million album copies this year – the artist name is Sam Smith.
Now with this kind of success, Sam Smith isn’t lonely anymore. The British artist achieved his success not only in the UK but he repeated the same in the US with similar number of record sales in both the countries. His album “In The Lonely Hour” crossed the million mark last night. With this achievement it became only the second UK-based record to cross the one million barrier. The other artist with one million sales outside the UK is Ed Sheeran. But the album sales aren’t the only thing Sam Smith achieved this year. He also dominated the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his second track reaching the top 5 just recently.
The other artists who had similar kind of success this year is Taylor Swift whose “1989” album sold more than one million copies in the U.S.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on Sam Smith’s music and success this year. Feel free to contribute in the comments section below.
