Spotify looks set for US launch

Spotify launching in US Online music streaming service Spotify looks set to launch in the US, after posting record profits and label pay-outs last year.

The music industry had been famously sceptical of the merits of Spotify, especially after it was reported in 2009 that 1 million plays of ‘Poker Face’ had netted Lady Gaga just £108!

However, Spotify now seems to have become more of a viable distribution channel for music and last year paid out about £38.5 million to record labels across Europe.  This has now piqued the interest of record labels in the US, with four deals reportedly already been signed.  According to The Independent, just one more deal with a US record label is needed for the service to be rolled out across the US.
