Single Review: “Yellow Flicker Heart” by Lorde

Lorde is making headlines with her Hunger Games track “Yellow Flicker Beat”. The sound track is featured in the latest part of Hunger Games series, Mockingjay – Part 1. Lorde has been teasing the track for weeks before releasing it. The track has received positive criticism from music fans as well as critics.

The song kicks off with a unique hum. The song quickly moves into a different mood as chants and noises begin to take over, turning it into a rather murky audio experience with minimal melody. This track is unlike any other released by the talented singer in the past.

As the song open, she slowly talks about the scars that have market her body…

“The scars that mark my body

They’re silver and gold”

As she completes these verses, there is a rapid change as the song explodes into something fierce. The chorus for this powerful synth-pop ballad goes like this.

“I just try, keep up with the red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart!”

The slick synths and thought-provoking lyrics turn this pop ballad into the best Lorde has come up with so far. In fact, it is probably the perfect assistance that Katniss is going to get for the battle as the track provides the necessary backdrop and energy for the action-packed moments that we will see in the movie.
