MGMT talk upcoming third album…

MGMT have been talking to Rolling Stone about their upcoming third album – the follow-up to 2010’s Congratulations – which has been tentatively slated for release in June.

After the critical and commercial scalding the duo received after the ‘experimental’ Congratulations, you’d think they might be aiming for a more accessible album – but that doesn’t seem very likely judging by some of their quotes. Ben Goldwasser from the band had this to say about the new albums direction:

We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it.

Which sounds promising, doesn’t it!?

Track names mooted for inclusion on the album include ‘Mystery Disease’, ‘Introspection’ (apparently a cover of a track by obscure US garage rockers Faine Jade) and ‘Alien Days’, which is described by MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden as: “about that feeling when a parasitic alien is in your head, controlling things.” – something I’m sure we can all relate to!
