Julian Casablancas and The Voidz Tyranny album cover

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz will release ‘Tyranny’ album in September

“Tyranny has come in many forms throughout history. Now, the good of business is put above anything else, as corporations have become the new ruling body. Most decisions seem to be made like ones of a medieval king: whatever makes profit while ignoring and repressing the truth about whatever suffering it may cause (like pop music, for that matter).”

And so begins the new phase of Julian Casablancas’ career as a political-activist with his new backing band The Voidz.

Earlier this year the (former?) front-man of The Strokes revealed new solo material during a weird video interview/album trailer, and now he has announced the album will be called Tyranny and be released via his own Cult Records label on 23 September.

The Voidz consist of musicians Jeramy Gritter and Amir Yaghmai on guitar, Jeff Kite on keyboards, Jake Bercovici on bass and Alex Carapetis on drums – but Tyranny may as well be viewed as Casablancas’ follow-up to his 2009 debut solo album Phrazes For The Young.

Tyranny is currently available to pre-order on the Cult Records website for the agreeable sum of just $3.87 – which is £2.27 in proper money.

There’s also a new album trailer to watch:
