John Cooper Clarke – ‘I Couldn’t Be More Proud of Alex Turner’

Doctor and Poet John Cooper Clarke has spoken about the great job the Arctic Monkeys did with their homage to his poem ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ which features on the bands latest album AM.

Talking in a video on the Arctic Monkeys’ Youtube Channel, the poet spoke about his pride in seeing his “semi comedic poem turn into a full on love song” at the hands of the quartet from Sheffield.

Its a number in which I attempt to reduce myself to the level of a mere commodity for the greater good of the object of my desire. It is to 21st century nuptials, what ‘Always Look on the Brightside of Life’ by Eric Idle is to humanist funerals“.

The 64 year old punk poet who rose to fame during the seventies then went onto praise the Monkeys fifth album which went straight to number one earlier this year.

If you haven’t already got it hurry up while stocks last. Its obviously a dead cert for the lucrative yuletide stocking filler market. Pay for that mother fucker record.”
